I had this idea when I was young that Valentine’s Day was so romantic and I couldn’t wait to find a partner to share it with. I saw my parents, who didn’t get along and constantly fought with each other, suddenly get along. “The Magic of Valentine’s” I would think. Wrong. Dead wrong.
It wasn’t until I was in a serious relationship with a wonderful man that I realized that Valentines isn’t the most important day of the year to show your love. The most important day is a random Tuesday in August when your both so tired from work, but you make a “special dinner” just because it’s your spouses favorite. Or, after you have been sick for three days and you finally emerge from your bed and realized that your guy has cleaned the whole house. When you got to the store and bring him back a snack just because. Those are the real Valentines Days.
Though I am not a hater on Valentine’s, I also don’t think it’s the most important day. Don’t spend 364 days being unhappy. Even if you love each other one the “Most romantic day”. It’s just not worth it.
Sit down and enjoy your romantic meal together, buy each other gifts, and enjoy each others company. Remember though, three days from now should be Valentine’s day, and three weeks from now, and three months from now. Never stop falling in love or enjoying each other. Valentine’s Day should be every day, not just February 14th.
